El Dia de los Muertos, All Souls Day, and Halloween: A Celebration of Spirits
El Dia de los Muertos, All Souls Day & Halloween
A time to reconnect with our lost loved ones and honor their lives. Thanks to our Hispanic American brethren for embracing this holiday, the Dia de los Muertos celebration comes to life in Longmont. And my Catholic family has taught me to embrace these rituals. All Hallowtide, the trinity of remembering the dead. The Saints, of course, have their “All Saints Day” day. So, we let out our wickedness on “All Hallows Eve.” Our cheeky Western tradition lets us acknowledge our dark side and release the demons (in a controlled manner) from time to time. Then we get to celebrate everyone (potentially trapped in purgatory) on “All Souls Day.”
Celebrating our families’ spirits is the founding principle of Abbott & Wallace Distilling
HK Wallace’s father, Howard, passed away 13 years ago this October. His mechanical ingenuity and passion for the simple pleasures in life were certainly the spark for this whole operation. Howard’s passing left his family at a loss but quickly inspired our future beverage business. My mother, Beth, passed away 10 years ago this July. Her professional drive and love to escape it all helped form the mentality we needed to make it happen and go with the flow. Howard loved Scotch and Beth loved Rum, and we distill those products with the utmost passion. Our (Tiny’s) Bierschnaps put our little distillery on the map. Wallace’s Malt Whiskey is easily our “smoothest” product. And our Barrel Aged Rum could be a game changer next year.
We of course have paved our own path
As you know, HK and I worked in breweries for many years. We needed those experiences to realize we loved spirits. I also attended a distilling school in Kentucky and am quite fond of Bourbon and Rye whiskey. However, our true passion is inspired by those who came before us. We cannot help but pour our time and energy into products that would make our parents proud. Boy howdy, I cannot wait till Rum Fest 2024.
Longtucky Spirits was (and still is) a celebration of our community
We love Longmont, all the folks who helped build this distillery, and the local flavors that make our products amazing. However, we reverted to Abbott & Wallace Distilling because the brand better represents the people we came from, who we are, and what our future hopefully looks like. Like the white oak we age our spirits in, our roots are deep, but our limbs are ever reaching up to the sky and our families in heaven.
Please join us for our El Dia de los Muertos and Halloween celebrations this weekend
We have an altar in honor of our lost loved ones, and we encourage you to add your family pictures too. We’ll have a shot of whiskey, a candle, and sweet treats for them to enjoy.
Cheers!
