Named for a famous work by… about a dozen different artists, this drink can best be summed up as a Sazerac Mule. If you’re a fan of Sazeracs—rye whiskey with absinthe, sugar, and bitters—or Whiskey Bucks—American whiskey and ginger beer—this is the drink for you! It’s tall and bubbly instead of boozy and forward, but we love it any time of year.
Self Portrait
1.5 oz Abbott & Wallace Colorado Straight Rye Whiskey
0.5 oz Absinthe (search your favorite local store, but don’t break the bank)
0.25 oz Lemon Juice
Topped with Ginger Beer (the spicier the better)
-Add everything to a tall glass with ice, and give it a stir or two. Top with Peychaud’s bitters for that Sazerac flavor.
Cheers!
And since it’s a Self Portrait, feel free to play with those ratios to your heart’s delight. After all, the only one who has to enjoy it is you!
