HOW TO MAKE A “ONE FLEW OVER”
… because you’d have to be crazy to give this cocktail a try, right? Well, hopefully you’re just crazy enough to trust me on this one. There may be a lot of things you haven’t had in a cocktail, and they definitely come together in surprising ways. The bitterness of the amaro and vermouth, with the tartness of the carrot and hibiscus, and a hint of black pepper from rose petals makes this one as delicious as it is interesting.
ONE FLEW OVER
1.5 oz Abbott & Wallace Amaro Arancia
0.75 oz Italian Sweet Vermouth
1 oz Carrot Juice
0.5 oz Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Bouquet Syrup (recipe below)
-Combine all in a shaker, and shake hard with ice. Strain into a rocks glass on ice. Garnish with a flower, or with nothing.
Cheers!
BOUQUET SYRUP
Sometimes, when the sun sets early and the nights get cold, we like to close our eyes and be magically transported to our favorite little meadows in the mountains. This syrup can turn any drink—from a Gin & Tonic to a Whiskey Sour—into a vacation to the gorgeous Colorado outdoors.
2.5 Cups Sugar
2.5 Cups Nearly Boiling Water
2 Cups Dried Rose Petals
0.5 Cup Dried Hibiscus
0.5 Cup Dried Elderflower
-Stir the sugar and water together until combined. Add flowers and let sit for 4-6 hours. Strain and bottle. If you need it to last longer than a week, and won’t give it to any kids, add 1 oz of Vodka to the bottle or jar.
